Daruma Doll Fair
Spring festival held at a temple in the west of Tokyo, where traditional ‘wish’ dolls can be bought for luck in various areas of life. A monk will draw a Sanskrit character in the left eye of the doll symbolizing the wish. If the wish has come true, the other eye will be filled in a year later. Every hour there is a prayer ceremony, and dolls from the previous year are returned to the temple and burned.
